Directions to Kinazi Upepo from Stone Town
Be it
by plane or boat you will arrive in Stone Town. The 45 minute drive from
Stone Town to Paje along a good tarmac road is pleasant. You will pass
right through the Jozani Forest and will most likely see our fabled red
colubus monkey. To travel from town you can take a taxi ($25 to $35).
Once you reach Paje follow the signs or ask anyone for directions.
Getting to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam
By Air
Local Airlines such as Air Tanzania and Precision Air have daily flights
to Zanzibar. If you are flying to Tanzania on an international flight,
it is advisable that you book your flight to Zanzibar as part of your
international ticket.
By Sea
For travellers already in Zanzibar, with no pre-booked ticket, a cheaper
option is to travel to Zanzibar by ferry. A number of ferry companied
operate out of Dar es Salaam. They all have offices at the port in the
city where tickets can be purchased.
Ferries leave regularly on a daily basis, so advance bookings are not
essential. Schedules, prices, and travel times are subject to change
throughout the year. It is therefore advised that you compare what each
company has to offer at their sales offices at the port.
Below is a guideline to the companies operating ferry services
between Dar es Salaam and Stone Town, details shown below are subject to
change. Non Tanzanian residents are required to pay for their tickets in
US Dollars. Be wary of pick-pockets and con-men at ferry terminals and
offices.

Kenya
Airways fly daily. A return ticket is approximately $233.
East African
Safari Air fly every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, a return ticket
is approximately $183. These fares include airport tax in Nairobi, but
exclude $30 airport tax in Zanzibar, which must be paid at the airport
on departure.
Flights to Zanzibar from the Rest of the World
Several international airlines including
British Airways,
Emirates and
Swiss fly in to Dar es Salaam only. Enquire with your local travel
agent about combining your international flight with a domestic leg
from Dar to Zanzibar, this will likely be cheaper that buying an air
ticket in Dar on arrival. Alternatively, you could take the ferry.
Other carriers from destination outside Africa which fly to Zanzibar
include Kenya Airways (from Europe, stops in Nairobi or Mombasa),
KLM
(from Europe, usually stops in Nairobi or Mombasa),
Ethiopian Airlines
(from America and Europe, usually stopping at Addis Ababa) and

Air (usually stops in Muscat or Abu Dhabi).
Visas & Vaccinations

Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania
and therefore for Visa information/applications you will have to
contact the Tanzania Diplomatic Mission in your respective country.

All overseas Nationals visiting the islands will
require a Passport valid for at least six months from the date of
travel.

American, Australian, British and most EU Nationals
will also need Visas. A visa should cost you about $50 or less.

Travellers from mainland Tanzania must show a valid
yellow fever certificate

Visitors from Australasia and Europe can obtain a
Visa at the International Airports in Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam.
Money, Time Zone, & Electricity
The Unit of currency is the Tanzanian Shilling.
Electrical mains supply is 230 V a/c. Power supply fluctuates greatly,
and power failures are common. Plugs are the British/Kenyan 3 square
pin types.
The time zone is GMT +3 hours.
